Remodel

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The clients sought to purchase an older home that they could completely remodel and craft into their own space and design.  The house they selected was a typical post-war ranch, modified in odd ways through the years by prior owners.  It was attached to an oversize garage, which itself contained several rooms that were not otherwise served by HVAC.  We took the house completely down to the studs, opening up the main living area into a great room, and divided up the remaining space to yield four bedrooms plus an office.  The ceiling in the great room was raised to match the slope of the roof, vastly expanding the sense of interior space.  One garage room was converted into the owner's private office, served by HVAC.  Another garage room was reoriented to enable access via the house, thus adding an fourth bedroom from space that was already there.  Due to the varying levels of the original sub-floor, much work was done to shim up and level out all the flooring, since the open floor design meant that any floor level flaws would be immediately visible.  All windows were replaced, and sliding doors added where indoor/outdoor living was created.  Overall, the client's vision and our joint collaboration resulted in a wonderful outcome that exceeded what we even imagined such a transformation could achieve.
